Main Bhi IIM Banoonga

Gone are the days of the cave men: who made wheels, exchanged ape-like grins and pretty much stopped right there. Today, we need more. In this complex genetic milieu, the newest life form is the Me-Too aspirant. S/he lives in feverish obeisance to their hallowed commandment: Follow thy neighbour. To IIM or Timbuktu.

Cramming for grades only because they heard that someone heard someone (… to n levels) say that grades might count.

Ditching mass-bunks because their cousin’s relative’s old classmate may have lost a seat at B because of (hold your breath) low attendance.

Solving mock-CATs because we all need smart sals and even smarter matrimonial ads.

(Even old darling The Economic Times, is reborn in its rehashed Gadag and Shetty avatar.) Mugging up company balance sheets, earnings reports… the works because hey, you are never too ready for the interviews.

Reading Jeffrey Archer because the topper at the 4th best institute recommended it in Competition Success Review.

Solving crossies because it takes care of part of a 5000-word list.

Going fast because one needs a head start.

Going slow because one shouldn’t ‘peak early’.

Living, breathing and existing because of the neighbour.

So the means doesnt justify the end eh?

A couple of years ago I wouldve agreed with you straight off the bat. But since then I've spent a little more than a year in a place that has taught me a couple of things.

>>Cramming for grades, wanting smart sals, smarter amtrimonial ads, reading archer, dan brown, et all, head starts, burnouts.

Heck dude don't judge 'em for what they're doing. They've come from places that lead them to believe that the herd moves in the safest direction. Evolution might have had something to do with it.

Besides by the process of disapproval of another mode of thought, one ends up undermining the very ideal you seem to uphold. Individuality. The essence of individuality isn't standing out from the crowd or disrespecting those who follow it, even blindly.

Cliched as it may sound, IMHO individuality is about being oneself, not despite the crowd, not because of it, not completely independent of it either. We are like it or not, part of the entire system, the tao so to speak. Ergo we can never be independent of the crowd. The idea I believe is to be at peace with the system. Buddha knew what he was talking about. :)

P.S: Have you dropped by my blog before or something. Your blog ID seems familiar.

this started with board exams only. its worse when u have a whole lot of students in ur colony taking up the same exam at the same time.comparisons, anxiety attacks, the i'm-gonna-tear-my-hair apart look, the sighs and the explanations...whoa, maddening.
and now when u have a whole lot of well-placed (read infy n wipro) engineers and MBAs in the colony, what can a poor li'l one like me do? :(

damsel in distress??

@ xand3r 0n3:
The Hindi is deliberate... It's amazing how these institute names have become synonymous with their alumni...

"Her husband is an IIM" still draws the neighbours; and even this motley crowd doesnt expect him to be spread over 300 acres!

I figured the usage of another language would have made it obvious...

Anyway, thanks 4 dropping by!
